(Photo by Nate Pesce) As they return to school this fall, hundreds of Howard County students and their parents are getting what authorities hope will be a sobering reminder of the importance of attentive driving. In 2005, Howard County public schools began partnering with the county health department and police to create an event intended to remind local teenagers about the risks of reckless driving — not just drinking and driving but other dangers and distractions such as speeding and cell phones. As a result, students who want a school parking permit are now required to attend a 40-minute presentation with a parent or guardian. Read more at www.explorehoward.com
